K12 access democratization
OBJECTIVE
ENSINA BRASIL wants to transform Caruaru's education system so that there is more equity. They need to guarantee the quality of education for all without disparities in terms of gender, race, sexual orientation, or social class.
The community seek to achieve an equitable, diverse, inclusive, and transformative educational system in which people feel empowered and confident, expanding opportunities and generating social justice.
The project team create conditions for the local community to be autonomous in its process of evolution and financially self-sufficient through the development of capacities for training new members of the community and capacities for raising local funds for the future development of the process of educational transformation.
THE PROBLEM
The group seeks to collectively understand the causes and factors that influence educational equity in Caruaru and, through this, define a shared vision about what we want for our students and the means of achieving it. They want to transform the educational system by understanding the structural patterns and mentalities that reproduce the same problems.
One of the main perceived problems is the lack of dialogue and collaboration between the actors in this system. There is a need to invest resources focusing on equity, decentralize the construction of educational guidelines and policies, alleviate the burden on education professionals, and value them.
RESULTS
They carried out a systemic mapping in a collaborative way, with intersectoral engagement involving more than 30 entaties: the school community (students, teachers from different stages and teaching modalities, pedagogical coordinators, and school managers), Municipal Department of Education, Regional Management of State Education, black movement, LGBT movement local, Tutelary Council, Public Security, Health, Social Development, Economic Development, Academy, Association of the third sector with a focus on inclusion.
From the shared understanding of the current education system and its problems, they design action plans to test solutions and expand them. To ensure the project’s sustainability, the team will develop a medium-term financing plan with the community based on local resources.
OUR CONTRIBUTION
ASyIm provided strategic support to integrate a systemic vision to develop a collective Action Plan, Sustainability Strategy, Governance Model and Transition of project leadership, all building local capacity of the Ensina Brasil to manage a system change strategy.
I feel that I have to bring to reality all the information that was very useful and very detailed.
